I know how it feels when you love running as I am fascinated with running too. People have become adventurous when it comes to this fitness activity and a lot even dare to run in the rainy season. However, this challenge seems to have some downsides and grim consequences if not done right.
For instance, wet roads can become muddy and slippery. This means that surface friction has dramatically decreased, posing possible dangers when you run on it. With this in mind, safety must be your first priority when you plan to run in the rainy season. Aside from that, there are also a lot of other factors to consider when you try to do some track activities under the pouring rain.

Here are some tips when you run in the rainy season
Dress in layers:
Especially when it’s cold, you must dress in layer. The outer layer must be wind-resistant to prevent air from having in contact with your bare skin; you don’t want to feel extremely cold. It must also be water-resistant to prevent rainfall from getting in contact with your skin; you also don’t want your open pores to get soaked.
The internal layer is the most important thing – the one closest to your body. CoolMax or polypropylene fabric are the most recommend ones because they wick sweat and water away from your skin.
Wear a brimmed hat:
Wearing an ordinary hat is not enough – you must use a brimmed one. A hat with a brim is your best bud and you don’t know it yet! Even in downpour, the hat will keep the rain away from your face so you could focus more on the track ahead.
Wear something bright:
This is one of the most imperative tips that you should incorporate. Wearing light or bright clothes is not for fashion purposes but something more important. For starters, know that rainfall promotes poor visibility especially in the part of drivers. By wearing something bright, the drivers who are on the same road as you can be easily notified that you are also in the road. With that, accidental hit and runs can be prevented.

Wear outer layers that showcase bright colors; it is even better if you wear something with reflective strips.
Never overdress:
This is one of the most common mistakes that runners commit – overdressing. Well, you should not add to their count. The logic behind is quite simple. When it’s raining and you overdress, the layers of clothes will get soaked with water, eventually adding significant weight. This only means one thing; you can’t run well. Just imagine the overall mass you are carrying with you.
The point here is to not wear layers that were unnecessary. After all, you can’t expect yourself to become absolutely dry. So wear the same number of clothes to the number you wear when it’s sunny but this time the fabrics must be built for rain condition.
Avoid getting your techs wet:
I know you’re so eager to run in the rainy season. I also can’t blame you for having that smartwatches and smartphones. They are undeniably helpful especially when it comes to tracking your activities. Even if it’s raining, there’s a solution you can make so that you can still bring your tech essentials with you. You can use any waterproof carriers like a Ziplock bag to store your electronics. There are also a lot of products in online shopping platforms that offer waterproof pouches especially designed for iPhones. You can even use them underwater.
Wear old running shoes for the meantime:
This is only applicable if you are attending a race. When you leave your home and when the race hasn’t started yet, store your “real” shoes together with your socks in a plastic bag and wear your old shoes for the meantime. Change to your real shoes once the race is about to start. With that, you’re able to start your race with a dry and light pair of shoes!
There you have it. The next time you want to run under the pouring rain, make sure you are able to follow the tips above for a safe and successful track activity!
